Being raised in Newfoundland, I was constantly inspired by the spectacular land and ocean that surrounded me. My name is Jamie-Lee Cormier and I am the creator of JL Designs.
I am originally from Western Newfoundland and currently live in Northern Alberta. After graduating with my Fine Arts Degree in Visual Arts, I opened my own art gallery and studio that displayed original local artwork and fine crafts. We also taught a variety of art classes from the very young all the way to adults. I ran this successful business in Corner Brook, NL for over 6 years, showcasing the art of established and new artists. It was hard to leave the beautiful Rock but I knew we had to and I was excited for this new adventure with my husband. After settling into our new place in Grande Prairie, AB we had our first child. Now as a new mom I am able to get back to my painting and jewelry designing, and am very excited to show you what I have made.
My jewelry is very much inspired by the ocean & land using materials such as fish leather, seal leather, driftwood, beach glass, precious stones, feathers and more. I discovered my aboriginal heritage during my university studies and my work is influenced by this connection as well. All of my pieces are one of a kind so you won’t see another piece like it anywhere. Also, as a painter, I have created various pieces including custom orders for homes, landscapes, pressed flower arrangements, pieces designed using bridal bouquets as well as one of my favorites, abstracts.
